Acne During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is an exciting period in a woman’s life but it can lead to various health problems. During pregnancy the body undergoes hormonal changes which can result in acne or aggravate an already existing skin problem. Acne is one of the most common skin problems and leads to stress among the people especially during pregnancy. There are a variety of products available for treatment of acne but however they can pose a risk for a pregnant woman and her child. So during pregnancy the problem of acne should be solved by natural ways and by keeping more precautions and care.

One should always wash the face with a mild soap or a cleanser when suffering from acne. Oil based moisturizers should be avoided as they can aggravate the problem. The face should be washed with your hands and scrubbing with washcloth should not be done. Although there are many skin-care products available in the market which claim to be natural and safe during pregnancy, prior consent of your doctor should be taken before consumption as these products may not suit your skin.

Everyone who suffers from acne has an urge to pop or squeeze the pimples. This should be avoided as you make the situation worse by doing so. It leads to spread of bacteria and leaves scars which can otherwise be avoided. One should fight to control these urges as it can help in curing acne problem.

A healthy diet is a key to the solution of any health problem. You should eat food rich in anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids. Foods like berries, strawberries, green vegetables and olives are rich in anti-oxidants and can help in curing acne. Salmon and olive oil are rich the essential fatty acids which are important for healthy skin. Fried food and other fatty food should be avoided.

Exercising can also make a big difference to the skin. It helps in increasing the blood circulation of the body which leads better skin. It also helps in relieving stress and tension which helps curing acne problem. Daily exercise during pregnancy can be difficult but walking and mild cycling can be helpful.

Heavy make-up should be avoided and only water based products and labeled ‘noncomedogenic’ or ‘nonacnegenic’ should be used. It means that they won’t block your pores. One should always wash up the make-up before going to bed as it helps the skin to breathe.
